Explore the Natural Treasures
The Natural History Museum exhibits a vast range of specimens from various segments of the planet’s natural history. The museum houses life and earth science specimens comprising approximately 80 million items within five main collections namely: botany, entomology, mineralogy, paleontology and zoology.
The museum is a leading international centre of research specialising in taxonomy, identification and conservation. Most of its collections have immense historical and scientific value, such as specimens collected by Charles Darwin whose statue alos adorns the museum.
The museum is particularly famous for its exhibition of dinosaur skeletons and ornate architecture—also known as the cathedral of nature— for its large Diplodocus cast that dominated the vaulted central hall before it was replaced in 2017 with a giant blue whale skeleton hanging from the ceiling.
